Our inaugural meeting was held at Needham Market and attended by eighteen members and two prospectives.

A lively discussion ensued after individual introductions to break the ice, to decide on how formal future meetings should be. This culminated in an agreement that for the moment an informal approach would be appropriate. Peter Slaughter was coerced to be our liaison officer with the Taths Executive Committee but as he is already on the committee this would not increase his workload unduly.

It was agreed that four meetings a year would be acceptable with some longer day trips a possibility next year. We grasped the moment and agreed the following

  1. To attend the Weird & Wonderful Wood event at Haughley Park, Wetherton (Nr Stowmarket 18/19 May). Details to be circulated by Bob Adams.
  2. Visit to Chelmsford & Essex Museum Sat 8th June. Details to be circulated.
  3. Preview of Tony Murland’s auction at Felixstowe – Sept. 10th. Details to be circulated.
  4. Xmas lunch & meeting – venue etc. to be notified.

All our meetings are open to Taths members so why not join us??
We are also looking at a visit to the Museum of East Anglian Rural Life in the hope of promoting a useful link with them.

Well after that lot and some welcome lunch with more chat we passed around some tools bought along for discussion, after all, this was the main reason for being there! Some whatsits were discussed but not all identified.

To bring the afternoon to a close Des Pawson, our very own expert on rope/tying/knots etc. gave a talk on rope makers tools & then proceeded, with the help of some of our members, to set up a hand rope making machine This went down very well and rounded off a very pleasant day with everyone looking forward to the next meeting.

If anyone who has not been contacted or lives outside our region -  which is Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & Essex - and would like to join us, please contact the organiser, Paul Coutts.
