Our TATHS Conference in 2020 will be held in and around BRISTOL.

The original programme was intended to be as follows:  

Friday 24th April – All day visit to BRISTOL HARBOURSIDE. 
M Shed Museum & the Underfall Boatyard.

During the morning delegates will visit the M Shed Museum with a behind the scenes tour of their reserve stores. There will be a harbour tour in an historic boat, and a visit to a working historic crane (limited access). Lunch on your own (M Shed & other cafés nearby).


In the afternoon, delegates will move down to the Cumberland Basin and visit the Victorian workshops at the Underfall Boatyard. There will be a demonstration of the Hydraulic Pumps and Accumulator which used to operate the lock gates, cranes etc. along the harbour, and the sluices which control the water level in the harbour. In the evening there will be a lecture on the family firm of Stothert & Pitt, plane makers, founders, steam engineers, locomotive & shipbuilders.
(There are regular ferries across the harbour for shopping opportunities in Millennium Square).

Saturday 25th April – a.m. MARK REES MEMORIAL LECTURE and AGM at the HOTEL.   p.m.  VISIT to the Saltford Brass Mill

An 18th C. mill on the river Avon. Delegates will tour the mill in groups with guides and see Water Wheels, Tilt Hammers and Annealing Furnaces and other artifacts. There is a small shop. www.brassmill.com


Evening - The Conference Dinner at the hotel is followed by our annual Tool Auction. Don’t forget to bring some items for sale.


Sunday 26th April – a.m. Tool Displays (this year with a prize for the best display, so make a splash!),  -  short talks by members.

Buffet lunch at hotel.  Then in the afternoon there is an opportunity to visit the SS Great Britain, Brunel’s famous ship. This is the 50th anniversary of the return of the “hulk” from the Falklands.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW a.s.a.p.


If there are enough people, I can arrange a group tour (min. 15).

If not enough people respond, then you will visit on your own.

Accommodation this year is at the HOLIDAY INN, FILTON, Bristol. BS16 1QX

(rates - B & B £85 single & £95 double  -  this is a four star hotel)
